                                                          My HSP Anxiety Story

                     

I have been where you are. As an HSP, I felt anxiety and overwhelm often for much of my life.


  • I was becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist, supporting my clients, raising my kids, and feeling a high amount of stress.
 
  • I had a hard time relaxing in my life. I kept going and going all the time, while neglecting my self care.
 
  • I had worry thoughts often and it was hard to stop the thoughts at times.
 
  • I kept putting others’ needs ahead of mine. I would take on others’ emotions and often wanted others’ approval.

That led to people pleasing often.

I decided I needed relief. I tried some of the Psychology strategies I teach as a Therapist, but it was not enough. They would only work short-term, and the anxiety would come back again.


I realized I needed to do something different.


What worked for me:



After a major life event (mysterious I know), I became a Reiki practitioner. When I started combining Reiki with Psychology and Mindset Strategies, while also forming a consistent daily routine, my life finally began to change.

  • I noticed that the anxiety and overwhelm were decreasing significantly, and I had much less worry and ruminating thoughts.
 
  • I felt like I now had more freedom and control over my thoughts and feelings. I also felt more grounded.
 
  • I had learned to be more Present as much as possible on a daily basis, and I noticed how much that also helped with reducing anxiety.
 


I had also learned to be more consistent with putting my needs at the forefront, while continuing to be there for my children, as well as helping clients and colleagues.

And this growth allowed me to stop People Pleasing, set more healthy boundaries, and develop strategies to not take on other’s emotions.

You are not alone:



It is not your fault that you are highly sensitive and you feel stress,
overwhelm and anxiety more deeply than others.


It has been hard at times in your life because

"younger you" may have been bullied because of it.


You were told by friends and family that you are being too sensitive

when you cried or reacted in a sensitive way.

They don’t know what it is like to have sensitivities, such as sensory things affecting you-the lighting in a room or certain loud sounds. Or feeling all the energy of being in large crowds, or needing solitary time at times to “recharge” after engaging in social situations.

It feels like you have to be Perfect in everything you do in your life, just to measure up.

You need help to stop picking up others’ emotions, to stop the worry thoughts, to reduce overwhelm and anxiety… and it comes as a combination of strategies.
